Since first decades of the 13th century, and in the years that followed, through armed conquests, Perugia had enlarged its territory to damage neighbouring cities, such as, Gubbio in particular.
The objective of the rivalry among the two contending cities were conquesting (for Perugia) and mantaining (for Gubbio) castles along the border, which consisted of Casa Castalda, Giomisci, Colpalombo, Caresto…
