Casacastalda

On the ruins of a settlement that dates back to the people of Umbria (1000 BC) Ernero Castaldo, a Lombard following Totila, built a castle called "Casa del Castaldo" ("House of Castaldo").

Other events saw the involvement of this village, attractive for its dominant position, in the bloody power struggles that led to repeated looting, until the complete destruction of the castle wanted by nearby Perugia in 1433.

The history of Casacastalda was reconstructed by the historian Dr. Gaetano Bensi in his volume "Il Castello di Casacastalda e la sua Pieve" ("The Castle of Casacastalda and its Parish Church").

The emotional journey highlights the crucial steps in a sequence of fifteen stages that the visitor can relive while walking inside the walls of the historic center.
